LEAVE BENEFITS

Pueblo School District 60 has generous leave benefits.  Leave amounts are determined by the length of an employee's contract year and by the association their position is represented by.  Please review negotiated agreements for detailed information on both paid and unpaid leave options.

Holidays

12 Month employees on a 261, 209, or 220 day contract are given 14 paid holidays each contract year. 

Annual Excused Leave

Vacation

Annual vacation benefits with full salary are granted to all 12 month employees on a 261 day contract.  Details can be found in each group's negotiated agreement.

The information in this section is provided as a general summary only. Annual Excused Leave benefits are provided to all full-time employees, but each negotiated group has specific details regarding rules for use and the amount of leave each employee receives.  Employees working the entire contract year generally receive their full amount of excused at the beginning of the contract year.  Employees who work a part of the year will receive a pro-rated amount of leave either when they begin working or will have the amount adjusted if they leave before the end of the contract year.  Please see specific contract agreements for detailed information.

Excused leave cannot be used for vacation, recreation, or to make money somewhere else.  Excused leave can be used for the following purposes:

  • Personal Medical Illness or Disability, Child Adoption, Childbirth

  • Medical Illness, Disability, in the immediate Family

  • Personal

  • Death of Immediate Family Member or Other Relative

  • Work Related Injury

Unused Excused Leave shall be accumulated from year to year.  Accumulated leave may be used for approved purposes only after the current year's annual excused leave is exhausted.

Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA)

Under the FMLA, employees are allowed up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave, with return to job rights, due to personal illness, the care of a sick child, and the care of a parent with a serious health condition.  In order to qualify, an employee must have worked for the District for at least one year and have worked at least 1250 hours in the 12 months proceeding the requested leave.  Click here for more information about the FMLA.

Other Types of Leave

PARENTAL LEAVE: Parental leave without salary and fringe benefits, except health insurance, may be granted to employees for the purpose of child rearing, child care, or adoption

MILITARY LEAVE: Employees who are members of the National Guard or any other component of the military forces of the state now or hereafter organized and constituted under state or federal law, or who shall be members of the reserve forces of the United States now or hereafter organized or constituted under federal law shall be entitled to both paid and unpaid leave of absence from their employment under certain conditions.

JURY DUTY: Employees shall be granted leave for jury duty as provided by law.

SPECIAL LEAVE: Leaves of absence requested for purposes not covered my be requested on an individual basis and approved at the discretion of the Board of Education.
